Oneplus 7 pro – A Flagship killer’s flagship move!

Oneplus has been manufacturing some excellent smartphones in recent years. The 5T, 6 and 6T have been some of the best phones in the $500-$600/ INR 30,000 – 40,000 range. These phones offered flagship grade specifications such as Snapdragon 800 series chipsets, a combination of high-spec camera hardware and software, amazing battery life, 18/18.5:9 FHD+ AMOLED displays, Dash charging and Oxygen OS rightly regarded by some as the best implementation of Android for a mid-range price point. This is the reason Oneplus were regarded as Flagship killers – Flagship specs at a killer price.

With the launch of 7 pro, Oneplus has entered the Flagship domain where it has to best the likes of Samsung (S10, S10+, S10 e and the Note series) and Huawei ( P30 pro, P30, Mate 20 pro/20/X). These phones have been reigning the android flagship market for quite some time now. But, they are also on the expensive side of the scale as they retail from around $700 or INR 55,000 for the S10 e to $ 1,299 or INR 90,000 for the 5G version of S10+. Specifications of the 7 pro

Oneplus 7 pro comes with Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 855 mobile processor manufactured on the 7nm process. It features 4 Kryo 485 Silver high-efficiency processors and 4 Kryo 485 Gold high-performance processors clocked at 2.84 GHz. It is coupled with Adreno 640 GPU providing all the gaming and computing power you need. The 7 pro comes in 3 variants – 6/128, 8/256, 12/256 (RAM/Storage). For the first time Oneplus have decide to go with a QHD+ display having a screen resolution of 3120*1440 pixels and they call it a Fluid AMOLED display. The display also has 2 operating options – a normal 60 Hz display and a 90 Hz option for increased refresh rate and touch sensitivity. The display also comes with the native support to stream HDR10 content. It is also the first phone that incorporates UFS 3.0 storage which is almost twice as fast as the previous generation. The 12 GB RAM version also comes with LPDDR4X RAM that supports a host of tricks. It comes with a glass black and a curved display held together with an Aluminum frame. Unfortunately it does not come with a headphone jack and users must rely on a type-C to audio jack converter or Bluetooth earphones. It also lacks an official IP rating and wireless charging and they may or may not be a deal-breaker for consumers depending on the segment.

A 4,000 mah Lithium-ion battery is included and it comes with a 30W Warp charge technology that claims to charge the phone from 0 to 48% in 20 minutes. The 7 pro comes with triple rear cameras and a pop-up selfie camera to provide us with an uninterrupted full screen pleasure. At the back we have a 48 MP f /1.6 Sony IMX586 sensor with OIS and EIS, a 16 MP f/2.2 wide angle lens and an 8 MP f/2.4 telephoto lens with 3X optical zoom OIS. The front pop up camera is a 16 MP f/1.6 Sony IMX471 lens with EIS. The 7 pro also comes packed with some handy software tricks for the pop-up camera , one of which is the fall detection where the camera pops back in as soon as it detects a fall. For secure login, it comes with an in-display ultrasonic fingerprint scanner which is a big improvement on the one’s that come with the 6T. The pop-up camera can also be used for face unlock although Oneplus recommends not to use it often and advises to go with the fingerprint scanner. The 7 pro comes with a stereo speaker setup for a better audio experience.
